Microarrayer Microgrid II (Genomic solutions)

The Microgrid II arrayer uses up to 64 solid pens or quills to print up to 108 coated-glass microscope slides with a high velocity (23 spots/sec) and a maximum print density of 200 µm pitch. The system can be used to array cDNAs, synthetic oligonucleotides or protein samples that are stored in a refrigerated biobank accomodating a maximum of 20 different 96- or 384-well microplates. The instrument is also equipped with a humidity control unit, a HEPA filtration unit, two recirculating wash baths, a "flood and flush" wash station, and a microplate lid removal system. It can be upgraded for barcodes reading, replication and rearraying of biological samples, and for membrane macroarray printing.

Microarray fluorescence Scanner Genepix 4000 B (Axon)

The scanner is equipped with 2 power-modulable excitation lasers (532 and 635 nm), 2 emission filters, 2 independent PMTs, and a barecode reader. It allows the rapid scanning of conventional 75 x 25 mm glass microarrays simultaneously in the two excitation channels, with a maximum resolution of 5 µm and a sensitivity of 0.1 fluor/µm2.

Microarray image acquisition and analysis software Genepix Pro 6 (Demo version at Axon )

The program acquires 16-bit TIFF images from the scanner and displays a ratio image in real time. It allows sample tracking (associates individual spots with substance names and Ids), automatic spot detection and fluorescence intensity evaluation, data imaging and manipulation.

2100 Bioanalyzer from Agilent Technologies (http://www.chem.agilent.com )

The Bioanalyzer is a microfluidics-based platform for the automated analysis of nucleic acids and proteins. In the context of gene expression studies via microarray technology, the instrument is particularly useful to analyse the integrity of RNA samples, and also to assess the efficiency of the labeling of cDNA/aRNA with cyanine dyes. Using as little as 200 pg of total RNA, the system automatically calculates the ratio of ribosomal bands, the percentage of ribosomal impurities in mRNA samples and the concentration of RNA. Up to 12 samples can be analysed in the same run in about 30 minutes.

Liquid handling robot Microlab Star (Hamilton )

The liquid handling robot is a flexible, fast robotic workstation for molecular biology applications. The MLSTAR delivers excellent performance by using 8 independent pipetting channels and modular accessories. The system allows liquid level and pipetting error detection. It automates oligonucleotide library manipulations, microplate reformatting, sample picking and dilutions.

Nanodrop ND-1000 Spectrophotometer (Nanodrop technologies )

The NanoDrop ND-1000 UV-Vis Spectrophotometer enables highly accurate analyses of extremely small samples (as low as 1 µL) with high reproducibility. The sample retention system eliminates the need for cuvettes and capillaries. The ND-1000 functions as a full-spectrum spectrophotometer covering the range from 220 nm to 750 nm. The 0.2mm path gives the ND-1000 the capability to measure absorbance 50X greater than that of conventional spectrophotometers eliminating the need for most dilutions. The ND-1000 allows to measure the fluorescence incorporation level into target RNAs before being analysed using microarrays.

Microarray hybridization and washing stations (Slidebooster 800 and Advawash, Advalytix )

The Slidebooster 800 incubates up to 8 arrays in 4 independent chambers with high precision temperature control. The system accomodates low volume samples with coverslip or not. Agitation of the sample through the slide using surface acoustic waves increases homogeneity, sensitivity and reproducibility.

The AdvaWash is ideally suited for post-incubation washing of microarrays. It eliminates the uncertainties of manual washing procedures and allows the standardisation of slide processing. The station processes 4 slides in one run using up to 5 different solutions and user-defineable programs comprising up to 8 configurable steps.
